James discusses the reasons he hears for advisers not talking GI and how, with the right level of support and appropriate tools from providers, there can no longer be excuses for not having the GI conversation with every client.
We recently surveyed advisers who hadn’t submitted a quote for our Home Insurance in the last three months and found that 22% didn’t quote ‘because they didn’t know the product well enough’, with 16 per cent saying ‘I want to sell (GI) but I don’t have the time’.
The reasons I hear from advisers for not discussing GI with every client remains the same from year to year. With the sales and marketing support available from ourselves and other GI providers – along with the different ways to submit business – there really are no excuses not to!
We’re calling for an ‘excuses amnesty’ and urging all advisers who’ve struggled to embed GI within their business to reach out and take advantage of the support and guidance available, enabling them to offer general insurance and ensure their clients are properly protected.

I acknowledge and appreciate that price is always going to be a key factor in obtaining home insurance, so clients can be excused for often going online in search of the cheapest option.
